Water Polo will take place from Monday 26th to Friday 30th June 2023 at the London Aquatics Centre (Stratford), home of the 2012 Olympics and the brand new Britannia Leisure Centre (Shoreditch).
Up to 500 players are expected to participate (in approximately 40 teams). Clubs have already been invited to complete a survey to indicate their division preferences and the number of teams. Based on these responses, the divisions (Competitive, Competitive Recreational and Recreational) have been capped at 10, 16 and 16 respectively.
Tournaments:
Water Polo will have two tournaments. The Open Tournament is for all teams, regardless of gender. All teams and players must register for one of the three divisions: Competitive, Competitive Recreational, and Recreational. There will also be a Women’s Tournament, details for which will be communicated once demand has been confirmed, but we anticipate 4 teams. For those that wish to enter the Women’s Tournament, please indicate this when prompted as part of registration.
The Competitive Recreational and Recreational divisions are an expansion of the Recreational League seen in prior IGLAs. Historically, there has been a range of abilities in the recreational division. By splitting the Recreational League into two, we hope to increase the number of games where teams play other teams of similar ability, with stronger recreational teams in the competitive recreational division and the rest in the recreational division.
Any additional team requests will be subject to capacity. It is possible to register for the tournament as a team member or as an individual. If you register with “no team”, we will support you to find one.
A detailed schedule will be published in May 2023. IGLA London 2023 championships are governed by the FINA rules and regulations and the tournament is organised under the recommendations of IGLA.
Registration:
In order to take part in the competitions, each participant must be at least 18 years old, and be a licensed member from a club that is affiliated with its national governing body.
Any given participant can only be a member of one team.
If you take part in the water polo tournament as a second sport, please note that the timetables of sports may overlap; make sure that the dates and times of the swimming tournament are not in conflict with any of the other sports you want to participate in.
