In partnership with Out For Sport, throughout the week of the championships, a series of training sessions and workshops will be delivered open to all IGLA and Out For Sport members.
Barriers to participation for underrepresented groups in sport.
This session is delivered by Omie Dale, a swimming instructor and outdoor swim coach, who works towards improving access to swimming and bettering participation rates amongst underrepresented groups in the sport. This began with her project ‘If 71% of the world is water, how do we feel at home if we don’t know how to swim?’ looking at people of colour’s relationship with water and offering free swimming lessons whilst documenting their stories. She is now the director of Swimunity, a Community Interest Company that offers free swimming lessons for women and children in London. She has also worked for organisations such as Pride in Water, Out to Swim, Mental Health Swims, Nike London and Speedo exploring the issues faced by certain demographics when learning to swim and how they can be improved.
All sessions are available to a maximum of 2 members per club.
